Spatial-temporal evolution of landscape degradation on the Guamá River Basin, Brazil

The goal of this study was to determine the anthropization evolution Guamá river basin in years 2000, 2008 and 2018 by means Anthropic Transformation Index. Land use cover maps were obtained from two databases, Project Mapbiomas (Brazilian Annual Use Cover Mapping Project) PRODES (Project for Satellite Monitoring Brazilian Amazon Forest). main classes defined mapping process are: forest, natural non-forest vegetation, agriculture livestock farming, secondary urban infrastructure, water others. Secondary vegetation considered as area where forest intersects with deforested areas PRODES, determined map algebra operator. expansion farming achieved an increase about 10%, while reduced almost 10%. Index 4.44 5.04 5.09 2018, going a regular degraded state 18 years. occupation caused major alterations components landscape over course years, notably amount forest. Protection 35% remnant primary is vital conservation resources vulnerable changes land use.
